Common Causes
The most common cause of this type of rash is tinea corporis (ringworm), a fungal infection transmitted through direct contact. It can be acquired by touching infected skin, sharing personal items such as towels or clothing, or even through pets like cats and dogs. Warm, humid environments also increase the risk, so it is more common in people who sweat a lot or live in tropical climates.
However, not all ring-shaped rashes are fungal. Conditions such as eczema, allergic reactions, or even insect bites can sometimes look similar. That’s why proper identification is important.
How to Treat It
If the rash is caused by a fungal infection, over-the-counter antifungal treatments are usually effective.
