A circular, red rash, like the one pictured, is a common skin problem that many people experience at some point. While it may look alarming at first glance, it’s often related to a treatable condition: ringworm, a fungal skin infection. Despite its name, ringworm has nothing to do with worms. It’s actually caused by fungi that thrive in warm, moist areas of the body. What does this type of rash look like?
The rash typically appears as a round or oval patch with a slightly raised, red border and a lighter or less intense center. It may gradually expand outward, forming a ring-like pattern. The affected area may feel itchy, dry, or slightly scaly. In some cases, several rings may appear, especially if the infection spreads.
